Confined Spaces

Confined Space

According to Safe Work Australia’s Model Code of Practice: Confined Spaces, a confined space is defined as: "a space that is substantially enclosed; has limited means of entry or exit; and is not designed for continuous occupancy."  It also outlines specific requirements for businesses to manage the risks associated with them.  These requirements include the establishment of a Confined Space Register and the use of appropriate signage.

Confined Space Register

A Confined Space Register is a vital tool for identifying, assessing, and managing the risks associated with confined spaces within a workplace.  It serves as a central repository of information about each confined space.  By maintaining a comprehensive Confined Space Register, businesses can ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to protect workers from potential hazards.

Confined Space Signage

Appropriate signage is essential for alerting workers to the presence of a confined space and are to be prominently displayed at all its entry points.
